Obituary

Ella Minnie Matilda (Falkenberg) Mumme, age 92, of Hondo passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. Ella was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Topsey, Coryell County, Texas, to Charley and Emma (Meyer) Falkenberg. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Coryell City and was confirmed Aug. 12, 1934, in Immanuel Lutheran Church near Lubbock. She attended New Hope and Cooper schools near Lubbock and graduated from Knippa High School, Uvalde County, in 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley Mumme in 1994; daughter, Stella L. Mumme; brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Dorothy Fa1kenberg; sister, Ida (Falkenberg) Balzen, and daughter-in-law, Deborah (Cade) Mumme. She married Stanley Mumme on April 15, 1941, at the First Methodist Church in Hondo and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April 1991 in this church. Ella became a member of the church in 1945 and served as a Sunday school teacher, a Methodist Youth Fellowship teacher and was a member of the sanctuary choir for many years. She also served in various other church offices. She was a homemaker and had a special love for land, farming and sewing. Above these things, she loved her family and her church. The love of the land and the church were a special gift from her parents, who were of the Lutheran faith and lifelong farmers in the Lubbock County area. She is survived by five children, Nancy Fayrene Mumme of Houston, Patricia Ruth Ditsch and husband Dr. Craig E. Ditsch of Texarkana, William Joe Mumme of Fredericksburg, Robert Charles Mumme of Hondo, Jimmy Mumme and wife Becky of Hondo; grandchildren, Julie Diane Mumme Smith and husband Gerry of Gail, Candace Leigh Ditsch, Jim Bob Mumme, Brandi Kaye Mumme and Krystle Renee Mumme; great-grandson, Granger Smith of Gail; sister, Corinne F. Choate of Idalou; brothers, August Falkenberg and wife Betty of Idalou, Hugo Falkenberg and wife Peggy of Bovina; sisters-in-law, Elleen Gooding and Alice Wiemers and husband Alvin, all of Hondo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12, at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at First United Methodist Church followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. The family suggests memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
