Obituary

Elsie Muennink Stanga Kotowski was born March 18, 1926, and passed away Nov. 2, 2018, at the age of 92. She was born in Hondo, Texas, to Emil and Alma Wiemers Muennink. She was baptized on Easter Sunday when she was a week old, at the Yancey Methodist Church. When she was three years old, her family moved to George West. As a sophomore in high school she was honored with the citizenship award as the Outstanding Student of the Year. She graduated from George West High School as salutatorian. Elsie worked at Eagle Pass Air Force Base during WWII as a clerk. It was there that she met and married then Lt. Reno Victor Stanga of Alliance, Ohio. Lt. Colonel Stanga passed away in 1980. In 1986 Elsie married Colonel Thomas D. Kotowski of Willoughby, Ohio, and Floresville, Texas. He passed away in 2006. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Odis Muennink; sisters-in-law, Marie Stanga and Laura Rochford; brother-in-law, J. R. Rochford, all of Alliance, Ohio; and niece, Charlene Muennink Goin of Sugar Land. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Paula and Harold Jay of Sugar Land; sons, Gary and wife Becky Stanga of Pipe Creek and Jerry Stanga; brothers-in-law, Clyde Stanga of Alliance, Ohio, and Bruno and wife Kay Stanga of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters, Tiffany Nuno, Tara Franklin, Candyce Stockfleet, Kendall Stanga and Daytona Stanga; grandsons, Jared Stanga and Jeremy Stanga; grandsons-in-law, Alex Nuno, Elliott Franklin and Kevin Stockfleet; and great-grandchildren, Mason and Hailey Nuno, Henry Franklin, Caroline and Corbin Stockfleet. She was a life member of the Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher, a life member of the Wesleyan Service Guild and a member of the Emmaus Community. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization and of Iota Upsilon Sorority. She loved to play bridge, travel, and enjoyed playing tennis, softball and, in high school, her one football game when she scored the only points. Paul Harvey told of this game and her 2 touchdowns in his radio program, "The Rest of the Story." She worked as a secretary in Denver, Colorado and Alliance, Ohio, and was Supply Office Manager at Texas Aviation Industries and Glasscock Gallo. For the past five years she has been a resident of the Hampton Memorial Care Facility in Meadows, TX. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, at First United Methodist Church, Hondo. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
