Obituary

Elton Ray Batteau of Hondo, 69, departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, in San Antonio. Born Nov. 2, 1949, in Hondo, he was the son of Jesse James Batteau and Ima Jewel Johnson Batteau. Elton attended Hondo High School and graduated from the Gary Job Corps Center where he became a certified mechanic. A fun-loving man, he loved being in the company of family and friends and making people laugh. He liked working on automobiles, especially fast classic cars. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Audrey Jean Batteau; brother, Leslie "Poochie" Batteau; and grandparents, Joseph C. and Essie Mae Johnson. Elton leaves to cherish his memory his lifelong companion, Esmeralda Castillo; their son, Gerell Anthony Batteau (Diane Garcia), all of Hondo and daughter, Jamie Batteau of San Antonio; a grandson, born the day he died, Gerell Anthony Ray Batteau Jr.; brothers, Robert Charles Batteau of Clute, Joseph C. Batteau of San Antonio, James E. Batteau of Hondo, Stephen L. Batteau of Las Vegas NV; sister, Anita L. (Thermon) Cotton of San Antonio; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Service will conclude at the chapel.
