Obituary

Emma Jean Sampier Weynand of D'Hanis, age 94, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021.

Born in Uvalde County, May 24, 1927, she was the daughter of Jairrett Houston Sampier and Lesette Emma Betty Helbig Sampier, the eldest of seven children.

Jean graduated Knippa High School as Valedictorian of her class. She and her husband owned and operated The Country Mart in D'Hanis more than 30 years. Active for years in many community events and organizations, her family was her top priority. She loved playing dominoes, cooking, baking, tending her plants, and creating beautiful embroidery works.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Weynand; son, Ronald Lawrence Weynand and daughter, Judy Attaway; sons-in-law, Rusty Attaway and Ronney Werth; and her siblings, Myra Jones Nester, Betty Weynand, Ollie Gebert, Alice Smith, Mary Nell McGraw and Arthur Sampier.

Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy "Dottie" Wolff (Ray), Deborah "Debbie" Werth, Dori Stiles (Mike) and Tina Mumme (Roy); 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 9,  from 9:30 to 10 a.m., followed by Rosary at 10:00 and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Parish Hall Renovation Fund.
