Fidel Ramirez, age 83, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Mar. 2, 2008. He was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Hondo, the youngest son of Marcial and Gregoria (Rodriguez) Ramirez. Fidel was a disabled Army veteran. He had served as a medical technician in New Guinea, South Philippines and Luzon during WWII. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After his military service, he was a laborer in building construction. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, David Ramirez; grandson, Robert Sandoval, great-granddaughter, Andrea Margareta Duran; son-in-law, Raul J. Villarreal Sr.; and siblings, Marcial Jr., Pasquel, Casimiro, Lionicio, and Genoveva Gonzales. Fidel is survived by his wife, Andrea (Ramirez) Ramirez; daughters, Olga Duran and husband Manuel, Ofilia Sandoval and husband Baldemar, Elena Villarreal, Sylvia Fernandez, Elsa Ramirez and Gabriel Lopez; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, Mar. 5, at 7:00m p.m. and Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Mar. 6, 11 a.m., both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
