Floreine (Best) Wiemers of Hondo was born Jan. 6, 1913, in Maxwell, TX, to August and Martha (Schawe) Best and entered into final rest April 19, 2008, at the age of 95. She became a child of god through Holy Baptism on March 23, 1913 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church of Maxwell, and was also confirmed in that church on May 27, 1928. She completed one year at Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. She married Vernor V. "Dutch" Wiemers, on November 2, 1933 at First Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi, where she was a member. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Verlyn. The family moved to Hondo, Dutch's hometown, after he finished serving his country following World War II. They became active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Floreine spent most of her life as a loving wife and mother. Her spare time was devoted to activities of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She organized the Jr. Mission Band for children in 1947 and helped start Vacation Bible School. She was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and served as president of Women's Missionary Society in her younger years. She especially enjoyed making quilts for Lutheran World Relief, which she did until her eye sight failed. When her health failed, Floreine moved to Medina Valley Health and Rehabilitation in Castroville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernor V. "Dutch" Wiemers; daughter, Verlyn "Cricket" (Wiemers) Mangold; and siblings, Waldemar (and Lena Mae) Best, Anita (and Emmitt) Whittington, Theo L. Best and Marvin (and Marjorie) Best. Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Vincent (Ella) Best Weisser; sister-in-law, Mrs. Theo (Leona) Best; son-in-law, Russell J. and Carolyn Mangold; and numerous nieces and nephews. Floreine spent most of her life as a loving wife and mother. Her spare time was devoted to activities of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hondo, where she especially enjoyed making quilts for World Relief.
