Bendele Sparks
April 21, 1925 – January 30, 2020
Frances Georgia Bendele Sparks, age 94, passed on to be with our Lord on January 30, 2020 in San Augustine, Texas. She was born in Hondo, Texas on April 21 st , 1925 to Nora Schuehle Bendele and Robert Alfred Bendele. She was the middle child of three children born to this union. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, Oral W. Sparks, her sister, Nora Ann Hubble of Medina, Texas, and her brother, Robert Schuehle Bendele of Canyon Lake, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Sparks Nunez, son-in-law, Albert Nunez of Hemphill, Texas, grandson Frank (Trey) Keene III of Spring, Texas, granddaughter Senisa Blume, grandson Eric Blume, three great grandsons, Austen, Noah, & Emerson Blume all of Houston, Texas, one great granddaughter Jessica Pharis of Golden, Colorado along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Frances graduated from Hondo High School in 1942 where she was in the pep squad. She met Oral Sparks during World War II when he was stationed at Hondo Air Base. After graduation, they were married on May 1, 1943. During her working years, she worked at Texas Aviation Industries where she became a weather forecaster for the pilots, Medina Electric Coop, the tax office, and city hall.
Frances was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church (with her confirmation on May 30, 1948) and she served on several committees and circles as well as being a 50+ year member of Hermann Sons. Frances and her husband enjoyed square dancing, hunting, card games, and dominoes. She also baked cakes for the monthly birthday parties at the local nursing homes.
Due to her husband's failing health, they transferred to San Augustine to be closer to her daughter and she became a volunteer at the local nursing home assisting residents with bingo and other activities. She earned several years of awards for her voluntary efforts at Twin Lakes Rehab and Care Center.
Viewing: Sunday, February 2, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Hondo, Texas
Service: Monday, February2, 2020 at 10:00 am St Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pall bearers are: Trey Keene, Eric Blume, George Bendele, Bill Bendele, Henry Hubble and Carl Hubble.
