Frances Harriet Brucks of Hondo passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016. She was 84. Born Dec. 25, 1931, in Hondo, she was the daugher of Ernest W. and Lillian "Sally" Gray Brucks. She lived most of her life in the Hondo and New Fountain area. Harriet was a cheerleader at and a graduate of Hondo High School. She regularly attended New Fountain UMC and became a Sunday school teacher. She wore many different hats throughout her life, as a homemaker, Montgomery Ward sales clerk, a Hondo and Broadway bank teller, a Haby's Bakery cake decorator, and a person who prayed for and cared deeply for others, especially those who were struggling. She enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays and participating in family and church socials. Autumn was her favorite time of year, as it reminded her of harvesting God's bounty in God's country. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert Douglas Riff; brother, Dr. Ernest William "Bill" Brucks Jr.; and sister, Edna Gray Aronson. Survivors include her sons, John (Karen) Riff of Hondo and Steven P. (Joanne) Riff of Vandenberg; daughter, Susan M. Riff of Alpharetta, GA; eight grandchildren; and brother, Dr. Anton "Tony" (Jackie) Brucks of Dallas. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, New Fountain United Methodist Church Fountain of Life Center. Interment will be at New Fountain Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to New Fountain United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
