Frank L. Garcia Sr., age 91, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012. Born Apr. 19, 1921, in Hondo, he was the son of Antonio M. and Andrea E. (Ochoa) Garcia. Frank served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and remained in the Navy Reserves, retiring after 25 years. A skilled cobbler, he owned and operated Garcia Shoe Repair on 17th Street for 50 years, many of those years while also working as a machinist at Gary Aircraft. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maria (Velasquez) Garcia; daughters, Maria Dolores and Betty Ann; sons, Gustavo and Jesus; brothers, Martin, Melecio, Victor and Antonio; and sisters, Enedina Moncada, Angela Perez, Maria Barrios and Julieta Gonzales. He is survived by daughter, Adelina Fansler and husband Lloyd of Hondo; sons, Frank L. Garcia Jr. and wife Irene of Hondo and Gustavo Gonsalo Garcia of Harlingen; eight grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 20, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste from 12 Noon until 1:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass followed at 1:00 p.m. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
