Gabriel Y. Gonzales, age 89, of Hondo passed away in San Antonio. He was born in LaCoste, March 8, 1913. Gabriel was retired from Southern Pacific Railroad as a section hand. Survivors include his son, Evaristo Gonzales of San Antonio; daughter, Dominga Hernandez of Dallas; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Augustin Gonzales; sisters-in-law, Petra Lopez and Semona Gonzales, all of Hondo. He was preceded in death by parents, Francisco and Luisa (Ybarra) Gonzales; son-in-law, Alonzo Hernandez; brothers, Natividad, Gumecindo and Pasqual Gonzales; sisters, Augustina, Maxima and Dominga Gonzales. Pallbearers were Ernesto P. Gonzales, Michael A. Concha, Joe Monreal, Rudy Gonzales, Miguel A. Concha and Pablo Carreon Jr. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 with auspices by Pablo Carreon Jr. at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
