George Arthur Manis, age 87, of Quihi passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016. Born May 24, 1928, in Texas City, he was the son of Alfred and Olga Johnson Manis. Having served in the U.S. Army, he was a Korean War veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Galveston County. A former member of the Whiskey River Boys Band, his passion in life was music. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Johnnie, Joe, Frank, James and Raymond Manis; a grandson and two granddaughters. He is survived by his son, Brian (Yvonne) Manis of San Leon; daughters, Mary "Susie" Welch of Texas City, Alice (Ricky) Andrews of Newton, and Linda Montgomery of Deer Park; 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Connor of Hondo; brothers, Robert (Debbie) Manis of Utopia and Sonny (Barbara) Manis of Texas City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Private interment will be at a later date at Quihi Cemetery.
