Obituary

Lt. Col. George Lloyd Rule Jr. (USAF Ret.), age 83, of Hondo went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, March 7, 2014. Born Sept. 6, 1930, in Pasadena CA, he was the son of George L. Rule Sr. and Clara Elizabeth (Davidson) Rule, who preceded him in death. George graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and then received his pilot training at Hondo Air Base where he met and married his wife, Gloria. He later received his Masters from Stanford University, served a tour in Viet Nam, two tours at the USAF Academy, and also attended the University of Southern California. He was a part of a Marine exchange program and served on the USS Saratoga during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired in 1974 and then worked at USAA. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria Lee (Johnstone) Rule; two sons, George L. Rule III and wife Gigi and Gary Lee Rule and wife Diane, all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Colin, Adam and Lyndsay Rule; and brother, Robert Rule and wife Carol of Hemet CA. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 15, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 4440 Piedras Drive West, Suite 125, San Antonio TX 78228.
