George Albert Tovar of Hondo, age 82, passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021.

Born April 8, 1939, in D'Hanis, he was the son of Guillermo and Hortencia Ontiveros Tovar.

George proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and, later, with the American Red Cross and was a first responder with FEMA. He enjoyed woodworking and yardwork. He was loved by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Guillermo Jr. and Carlos.

He is survived by his son, Russell Tovar (Rachel) of San Antonio; daughter, Lydia Harris (John) of San Antonio;  son, Christopher Tovar (Rose) of Hondo; and son, George Tovar of San Antonio. His grandchildren are Matthew, Phoebe, Jonas and Silas; Victoria, Jared and Allison Davis and Samantha Vasquez (Chris); Xavier  Tovar (Carla) and Taylor Tovar;  and his great-grandchildren are Marisol, Nicolas, Isaiah and Azariah. Also surviving are his sisters, Maria Inez Tovar and Margarita "Margie" Aguilar, both of D'Hanis; brother, Reymundo; aunts, Sister Mary Wilford Ontiveros, MCDP, of San Antonio and Esther Ontiveros of Hondo; and sister-in-law, Mary Tovar of San Antonio.

Visitation at 10 a.m. will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis, Tuesday, Aug. 10,  followed by Rosary at 10:30 and Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at San Francisco Cemetery.
