George Wilson, age 85, of Yancey passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014. He was born June 25, 1928, at the family ranch in Yancey, the son of Elbert and Cornelia (McCaughan) Wilson. He was a lifelong rancher, raising commercial and registered cattle. In his younger years, he raised and trained his own horses. He hosted many Friday night ropings at his ranch in Yancey. He enjoyed many other outdoor activities, particularly hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy and Sam Wilson; sister, Sue Heiligman; grandson, BK Nixon Dillard; daughter-in-law, Tara Wilson; and sister-in-law, Dolores Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances "Trina" Fohn Wilson; children, Gail (Nixon) Dillard of Pleasanton, Don Wilson, Dan (Cheryl Walsh) Wilson; brother, Wilbur (Mona) Wilson; grandchildren, Reagan Dillard, Jack (Deanna) Wilson, Sam Wilson and Ben Wilson; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Dean and August Wilson; and brother-in-law, Jimmie Heiligman. Visitation will be Friday, Apr. 18, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be Saturday, Apr. 19, 9:30 a.m. at Hondo Cemetery, St. John Mausoleum. Casket bearers were Wayne Wilson. Herb Wilson, John E. Heiligman, Ronnie Heiligman, Roy Wilson, Mike Wilson, Steve Wilson and Kyle Wilson. Memorial funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., at Yancey United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Yancey United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall Fund.
