Gerald Lee Harris, age 80, of Yancey passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at his home. Born March 10, 1933, in Atchison, KS, he was the son of Eldon and Elnora (Cain) Harris. He was a mechanic and retired as auto shop foreman with Southwest Research. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Linda Skloss and Donna Murphy; sons, Jerry Harris and Tom Jacobs; brother, James Harris; sister, Joyce Baer; and grandson, Thomas Jacobs IV. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean (Gould) Harris; children, Larry Harris, Richard Harris, Bobby Harris, Larry Miller and wife Cruz, Connie Corley, Lynn Carter, Chrissy Green, Sandra Reyes and husband Julian, Thomas Harris, James Harris; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Hollingsworth and husband Benton; and brothers, David Harris and wife Connie and Eugene Harris and wife Carmen. Visitation will be prior to the interment on Tuesday, April 16, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 16, 11:00 a.m., at Yancey Cemetery.
