Geraline "Gerry" Stiegler Schneider, age 89 & 1/2 of Hondo, was embraced by God July 19, 2013. She was born and raised in Hondo and was the eldest daughter of Edgar and Ella Frerichs Stiegler. Gerry was a member of the Lutheran faith and trusted in God throughout her life. During WWII, she met her loving husband, Richard Schneider of Chicago, when he was a navigation instructor at the Rondo Army Airfield. Mother and Daddy were married March 5, 1943 and began a life full of adventure, living in Brazil, Germany, Washington D.C. and other locations in the United States. She was a supportive army wife and cared for their children while her husband had assignments in Thailand, Korea and Vietnam. Following retirement, she and Dad moved back to Hondo, where the home they skillfully built together with the fruits of their labor, became the family gathering place for many occasions. Gerry always put others needs before her own and was a kind, giving spirit. Her door was always open. She spent many years lovingly caring for ailing family members and was never one to complain. Mother has surely earned her "angel wings" her many unselfish acts of kindness. She loved to work in her beautiful yard, listen to old country music, reminisce about the "Favorite Café", and enjoy a "cold one" on the patio 1and the many good times in "Port A" with the gals! She was the "Best of Mothers"! Gerry was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Heather Schneider; son-in-law, Ronald Kidd; and her brothers, Ralph & Henry Stiegler. She is survived by daughters, Cheryl Kidd of Greencastle, PA and Mary Zerr and husband, John of Hondo, TX.; sons, Richard Schneider and companion R.J. Romans of Katy, TX and Bill Schneider and wife, Maria of Midland, TX. Grandchildren, Marc Zerr and wife, Janet; Amy Bales, and husband Mitch both of Hondo, TX.; Gene Kidd and wife, Lisa of Jacksonville, FL; Scott Kidd and wife, Kim; Kate Smith and husband, Joe; and Bill Kidd all of Hagerstown, MD; Jessica Schneider of Lubbock, TX; Brandt Schneider of Midland, TX and Mandi Schneider of Nacogdoches, TX. Great-grandchildren, Jake & Jordan Zerr; Lillie & Max Bales; Trey, Quinton & Nick Kidd; T.J. & Zach Kidd; Jacob & Jaci Smith and Christian Schneider Also surviving are her sister, Doris Biry and husband, Joe of San Antonio, TX; 4 nieces and 1 nephew; and her dearest and faithful friends, Mary Wells, Ed Winnie McWhirter, Frances Sparks and E.J. Williams. Life celebration was July 23, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with private interment at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Mother's wish would be for each of us to love one another. To honor her life, we suggest you perform an act of kindness, by visiting someone lonely, taking a shut-in on a drive or out to dinner, or telling someone the things we often think of only after they are gone.
