Gertrude Mary (Koch) Bates Hester Moebius, age 86, of Hondo passed peacefully to her heavenly home Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Gertie, or Trudy as she was sometimes called, was born Jan. 10, 1924 in Hondo, the daughter of Robert A. and Nettie Lucy (Pichot) Koch. She married Cecil Bates and had two daughters, Betty and Dorothy. Later, she was married to L. F. "Slim" Hester for 21 1/2 years and expanded her family with stepchildren, Bob, Bill and Butch Hester and Alice Inglet. After his death, she was married to Preston F. Moebius Sr. for 14 years, adding a stepson, Preston Jr. to her family. She was a waitress, cook, housekeeper, bookkeeper, and was manager at the Medina Co. Nutrition Center. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; infant granddaughter, Teresa Patterson; sister, Evelyn Lucille Highsmith; brothers, Ira Roy Koch, Floyd Francis Koch, and Robert John ¿½R.J,¿½ Koch; brothers-in-law, Milton Highsmith and Leo Highsmith. She is survived daughters, Betty Patterson and husband Harley Wayne of Depew, OK, and Dorothy Carter of Hondo; sister, Kate Highsmith of Hondo; brothers, Charles ¿½Beaner¿½ Koch and wife June of Ballinger and Donald Koch and wife Pat of Abilene; sisters-in-law, Clara Bell Koch of Hondo and Doris Koch of Conroe. She is also survived by grandchildren and great-granchildren, Chuck and Heather Carter, Koen, Madison and Camrin of Helotes; Kathy and Johnny House, Avery, Emery and Ivery of Rowena; and Jess Patterson, Jenna, Christopher, Savannah, Lindsay and Gauge; Elizabeth and Scott Parks, Kyle, Abby and Chance; Anna and Randy Takacs and Quinten; Mary Sager, Harlie, Jessica and Makencie, all of Oklahoma. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, April 14 at the Guinn-Horger Funeral HOme. the Rosary will be led by Aleen and Ramona Koch at 10:30 a.m.Thursday, Apr. 15. Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Ken Dakin officiating. Readers are Kay Passmore, Janice Highsmith, and Suzy Holderfield. Pallbearers are Ray Highsmith, Jim Highsmith, Fletch Highsmith, Tony Koch, David Koch and H Zerr. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, St. John Section.
