Gertrude (Gerry) S. Land Riff left this earth to be with the Lord on Feb. 3, 2019. She was 91. She was born in San Antonio on Feb. 2, 1928 to John and Sylvia Land. Being in a military family, she spent time growing up in Harlingen TX, St. Louis MO, San Antonio and, finally, Rio Medina. While living in Rio Medina, she attended and graduated from St. Louis High School in Castroville. It was about this time that she met her husband-to-be, James Riff, and they were married on July 21, 1948. Three kids and a happy life ensued. Gerry was a good cook and she made sure no one ever left the table hungry. She greatly enjoyed living in the country and was a little unsure about moving to town in her later years, but, with a big yard and lots of plants to take care of, she adapted. She loved her family very much and she also loved her pets who gave her lots of comfort in her later years. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, James; daughter, Lee Anne Bollich; daughter-in-law, Sharie Riff; parents, John and Sylvia; and her brother, Ralph Land. She is survived by sons, Lyle Riff and Mike (Cheryl) Riff; grandchildren, Mark Riff, Alan Riff, Kelly Martin, Chris Bollich, Ashle Riff Aligno, Justin Riff and Shannon Riff; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, Feb. 9, at New Fountain United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Boysville or the Methodist church.
