Gilbert Ortiz Jr., age 66, of D'Hanis passed away Friday, May 13, 2011. He was born Feb. 8, 1945, in D'Hanis, son of Gilberto Sr. and Genoveva (Morin) Ortiz. He was retired. He had worked in Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base, was a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and had also served with the Navy and National Guard, totaling 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion. He is preceded in death by his father. Survivors are his mother; his wife of 42 years, Lydia (Pargas) Ortiz of D'Hanis; children, Marlene Ortiz and Andrew Ortiz, both of D'Hanis, Gilbert B. Ortiz III and wife Sandra and Jason Ortiz, all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Taylor Rodriguez, Rhiannon Ortiz, Diego Ortiz, Olivia Ortiz and Miguel Ortiz; sisters, Esther Hernandez and husband Sotero of San Antonio and Anna Garcia and husband Julian of Garland; and many nieces and nephews. Rosary was recited Tuesday, May 17, followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Pallbearers were Julian Garcia, Carlo Ybarra, Alvin Guerra, and Jeff Felan. Services concluded at the church.
