Gilbert S. Tovar Sr. , 83, entered into eternal rest, Nov 15, 2024, in San Antonio, Tx.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his sisters, Adela Flores, Oralia Elizondo, Elena Perez and his beloved companion Oso.
Gilbert is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Maria Y. Tovar; sons, Gilbert Tovar Jr. (Janet), Jose Ernesto Tovar (the late Monica) and Robert Tovar (Debra); daughter, Maria E. Tovar (Felipe); sisters, Mary Lou Ortiz (the late Henry), Consuelo Garcia (the late Efrain); brother, Ernesto Flores (Lupe); grand-furbabies Lady and Sissy; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Tovar family will honor their loved one on Monday, Nov. 25th, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at Guinn Funeral Home, 2006 Ave M, Hondo Tx 78861. A rosary will begin at 7:00 pm.
Mass will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at St. John's Catholic Church, 2101 Ave K, Hondo Tx 78861, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. A Celebration of Life reception will be hosted by Cowboy Country Church in D'Hanis, 7360 Co Rd 525, D'Hanis Tx 78850 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
Gilbert lived a humble life and was a friend to many, he never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and being one with nature.
Gilbert was an active member of the Cowboy Country Church in D'Hanis and served every Wednesday, alongside his friends, serving his community as part of the Meat ministry.
Gilbert was adored and loved by his family, loved and respected by many, and will be dearly missed.
