Glenn Edward Hermes of D'Hanis, age 63, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Born in Castroville, July 4, 1950, he was the son of Lloyd Clarence and Mary Ann (Riff) Hermes. Glenn served in the U.S Air Force as an interpreter in Thailand during the Viet Nam War. He served as a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Hondo for 23 years. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Zachary Hermes. Survivors include his son, Noah Hermes and wife Danette of Hondo; daughter, Sarah Smallwood and husband Stephen of San Antonio; grandchildren, Camaron Wright, Katelyn Hermes, Adyson Horan, Kyle Hermes and Angelina Hermes; brother, Russell Hermes and wife Sharlene of Castroville; and sister, Karen Zinsmeyer and husband Dean of D'Hanis. Visitation will be Tuesday, 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section. Pallbearers are Rudy E. Moos, Doug Samford, Bobby Hartung, Glenn G. Garrison, J. L. Zinsmeyer, and Jessie Hermes. The family suggests memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
