Gloria Lee Johnstone Rule of San Antonio, 82, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016. Born in Tacoma, WA, Dec. 14, 1933, she was the daughter of Ernest and Mildred Welch Johnstone. She and George L. Rule Jr. were married Dec. 6, 1952, in Hondo and she became a homemaker. With her husband serving in the USAF, she became a military wife, moving more than 20 times, as George's career took him twice to the USAF Academy, on a tour of duty in Vietnam and on Marine Exchange Program/USS Saratoga. They built a home in Kerrville TX, after he retired in 1974. Building their final retirement home outside of Hondo in 2002, they continued to enjoy traveling in their RV. She came to know Jesus Christ in Kerrville in 1981 and remained a follower as a member of New Covenant Fellowship, later named Church on the Hill. She moved to San Antonio after her husband's death. Gloria was preceded in death by her father; mother, Mildred Gilbert; stepfather, Charlie Gilbert; husband, George L. Rule Jr.; and sister, Georgia Schweers. Survivors include her sons, George (Gigi) Rule III and Gary (Diane) Rule, all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Colin Shane Rule, Adam Ross Rule and Lyndsay Brooke Rule; great-grandchildren, Ysabella Renee McGinnes and Anthony Joshua McGinnes; sister, Mary (Jack) Matthews of Helotes; brother-in-law, Harold Schweers of Hondo; and nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, preceded by visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. She will join her husband at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery after a graveside service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28. The family suggests memorials may be made to Church on the Hill, Hondo.
