Guadalupe Luis Gauna of Yancey passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023.  He was 78.

Born June 21, 1945, in Hondo, he was the son of Tomas and Maria Gauna.

Lupe was a man full of life and had great love for God until the end. Lupe loved his wife Tommie and children/grandchildren so much, he was known as Pops to Emma, Art, Petey and Greg. Lupe was a member of the church choir because he had a great love of music. He had time for everyone whether it was to talk while at HEB or WalMart or do some maintenance repairs. Lupe spent many years as a traveling maintenance person for nursing homes but found time for family with trips to the coast or visiting relatives. Jobs included Gary Aerospace, Hondo Nursing Home, and as maintenance supervisor for then Medina Community Hospital. He would always find things to repair even before staff reported it. Once retired, he continued doing handy jobs around Hondo and Medina County and at his daughter's house. The grandkids would joke, saying "who would we call when Grandpa can't do it anymore."

Lupe was a humble man and had a big heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tomasa Carrillo Gauna; in-laws, Daniel Sr. and Maria Carrillo; sister, Josefina Hernandez, and brother, Pedro Gauna Sr.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Emily Rodriguez (Robert); son, Joey Gauna (Susie); grandchildren, Nicole Gauna-Hebert (LaTosha), Thomas Rodriguez,  Alejandra Rodriguez (Lourenzo), Alianna Rodriguez, C. J. Chavez (Emily), Maleesa Maleljan; and siblings, Domingo Gauna (Clemencia), Ramon Gauna (Irma), San Juana Moreno (Marcial), and Leonor Moncada (Johnny); in-laws, Randy Hernandez and Elvira Gauna; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 14, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, Nov. 15, 11:30  a.m. , at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Yancey Cemetery.
