Harold Faseler of Hondo, Texas, passed away August 3, 2004, at the age of 86 years, 7 months, 15 days. Harold was a farmer and rancher in Yancey. His main crops were broomcorn, peanuts and maize. He always strived for excellence in his farming and ranching and therefore was very successful at it. During the drought years of 1951 - 1958, Harold worked for Texas Aviation Service Pilot Training, at the Hondo Air Base, as a fireman. While raising his family in Yancey, he served on the school board for the Yancey school system and as a steward in the Methodist Church. He moved his family to Hondo where he again became an active member of the Methodist Church and Methodist Men. He served sixteen years for the agriculture Stabilization & Conservation Service (now known as FSA), nine years as county committeeman and seven years as community committeeman. He also seved six non consecutive years as president of the Tri-County Farmers Coop in Devine, Texas. He was chosen in 1982 as the Outstanding Conservative/Rancher by the Medina Valley Southwest Conservation District. For twenty-six years Harold has looked forward to an annual hunting trip to West Texas with friends. He was the last survivor of the original group. Harold loved to dance and was a member of the county square, square dance club. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was loved and respected by not only his family, but a host of friends. He never met a stranger and always saw good in everyone. One of the things he enjoyed and looked forward to every year was the annual Easter picnic and BBQ at the farm. He would always invite people that were new to the area sometimes serving 100+. He was born in Yancey, Texas on December 19, 1917, the son of George & Edna (Neuman) Faseler. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Henry Faseler, sister Velma Brieden and twin great granddaughters Haile & Katie Scott. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florine (Ward) Faseler, and children Barbara Gilbreath and husband Tommy of Tyler, Maxine Davis and husband Bill of Garland, Carolyn Barta of San Antonio, Don Faseler and wife Terry of San Antonio, Sam Faseler of Hondo, Milton Faseler and wife Peggy of San Antonio, Morris Faseler and wife Sandy of Hondo, Douglas Faseler and wife Laura of Garden Ridge, 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home on August 4, 2004 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am Thursday August 5, at the First United Methodist Church of Hondo. Pallbearers were: Scott Masters, Jason Masters, Josh Faseler, Marc Faseler, Brian Faseler, Jon Cavalier, Hunter Faseler, Beau Faseler, John Wondra. Honorary Pallbearers were: Joe Dubray, Tomy Wilson, Ira Sansom. Interment will follow in Yancey Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to the charity or church of your choice.
