Obituary

Harry Edward Riggs of Groesbeck TX, 89, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021. Born July 21, 1931, Slab Fork, West Virginia, he was the son of Howard and Vada Gay Hicks Riggs.

Harry and the former Kathleen Wiemers married Dec. 14, 1968, at New Fountain United Methodist Church.

Harry was a long-haul truck driver for 20 years and his love of travel took them on many journeys, including to the Holy Land. He enjoyed wood-working, making and selling his craftwork at fair and stock show booths from Florida to Alaska. Upon retiring, they lived several years in the Ozarks and then settled at their country place east of Waco, where he built their log-cabin home.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Pamela Pritchett and Leona Dunford; brothers, Harold Riggs and James Riggs; and a great-grandchild.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years; children, Mark Edward Riggs of Groesbeck TX, Jeanne Estelle Riggs Devlin of Sarasota FL, Debra Darlene (Stephen) Hays, Sandra Faye Landry and Harry E. (Jennifer) Riggs Jr., all of the Houston area; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Hobart Riggs; brother-in-law, Curtis (Peggy) Wiemers of Hondo; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation on Monday, Feb. 22, will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Memorials may be made to New Fountain United Methodist Church.
