Obituary

Hector Mendez Vasquez of San Antonio passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020.  He was 74.

Born Nov. 11, 1947, in Uvalde, he was the son of Santos Luna Vasquez Sr. and Olga Mendez Vasquez. He was preceded in death by his father.

Hector and the former Mary Teresa Ytuarte of Hondo were married 44 years. A loving and devoted family man, Hector especially loved being with his grandchildren and was always ready to lend a helping hand when anyone was in need. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

A devoted worker, he won numerous awards as top salesman and retired as auto parts consultant when he was 71.  He enjoyed tinkering with his Dodge Ram truck and watching Lone Ranger reruns and wrestling.

Hector is survived by his wife; daughters, Michelle Marie (Kevin) Palacios and Jennifer Nicole (Rene) Vargas; and son, Hector Edward Vasquez, all of San Antonio;  grandchildren, Julian and Julissa Vargas and Soraya Palacios; sisters, Viola Cruz, Norma Navahar and Cindy Sue (Frank) Gonzales, all of San Antonio; brothers, Erve Vasquez of Austin, Santos L. Jr. of San Antonio, and Gilbert (Sandra), Arturo, George, and Jason Vasquez, all of Uvalde.

Visitation at Guinn-Horger Chapel will be on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., pausing for recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
