Hilda Emma (Mumme) Oefinger, age 97, of San Antonio passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Born in Dunlay, April 2, 1916, she was the daughter of Ferdinand and Christina (Balzen) Mumme. Hilda was baptised, confirmed and married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi. In her senior years, she decided to rejoin her childhood congregation and regularly attended worship until her health waned. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, she spent her life caring for them. She loved to tell stories of growing up in Dunlay and of her life with Milton. A woman of deep Christian faith, she also lived her faith in her daily life. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 57 years, Milton Oefinger; sister, Alice Rose Thompson; brother, Ferdinand "Ferdie" Mumme Jr.; nephew, Oscar W. Reitzer; and granddaughter, Karen Diaz. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Edwards; son, Richard Oefinger; and granddaughter, Susan Edwards, all of San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Garcia and husband Mike, Brandon Diaz, Nicole Diaz; and great-great-granddaughter, Reeana Garcia. Funeral service was Saturday, Mar. 8, 11 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment followed at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Bearers were Richard Oefinger, Brandon Diaz, Mike Diaz, Michael Garcia, Bobby Sollock and Richard Dudley.
