Howard Anthony Rothe, passed away on April 17, 2006, at the age of 90. Howard was born on January 2, 1916 on the family ranch in D'Hanis, Tx. to Eric Rothe and Antoinette Reily Rothe. He spent his entire adult life ranching - doing what he truly loved. Howard also was a great storyteller and especially treasured those stories that were passed down to him about his ancestors and their experiences. Howard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather - he will be missed. He was married to Lillian Fohn Rothe for 56 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Cora Rothe, his wife and infant son, James Fohn Rothe and his brother Lawrence Rothe. Survivors: daughters Betty Irwin and Jane Weekley of San Antonio, Tx. and son James Rothe, D'Hanis, Tx.; grandchildren, Lee Irwin, Lisa Irwin, William Weekley, and Caitlin Rothe. In addition he is survived by brother Joe W. Rothe and his wife Rosie, sister Margaret Ann Golden and her husband Bob, sister Dorothy Cheney and her husband Wayne, brother Robert Rothe and his wife Norma, sister-in-law Irene Fohn, sister-in-law Sara Fohn, numerous nieces and nephews. Howard served in the US Army in World War II. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the D'Hanis State Bank for 40 years. Past memberships also include the Holy Cross Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Society, Lions Club. Howard loved the staff and residents at Brighton Gardens where he spent his last 20 months. His family would like to thank all who gave their loving care to Howard in his last days including Vitas Hospice Services. The Rosary will be Saturday, 22 Apr, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis, Texas. The Very Reverend Wallis J. Stiles will officiate. The pallbearers were Robert J. Rothe, Charles W. Rothe, Lawrence Rothe, Nick Fohn, Lee Rothe Irwin, William Weekley. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, P.O. Box 426, D'Hanis, Tx., 78850 for those who choose to honor him in that way.
