Obituary

Inell (Nellie) was born to Herman and Elsie (Lutz) Poerner on March 18, 1925 on their family ranch north of D'Hanis, Texas and lived most her whole life in Medina County. Nellie met and knew Myles Weynand as they grew up a few miles apart on the Seco and Parker Creeks. They both graduated from D'Hanis High School and began their lives together as they married October 18, 1949. Nellie went to work for Bell Telephone Company and soon after marriage began a family that grew to 9 children. She later worked at the Medina County Hospital in the business office. Nellie was active in the St. John's Catholic Church Altar Society and the Castro Colonies Heritage Association as treasurer for some time. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and very involved in Blue Birds, Girl Scouts, and Camp Mary Louise. Mainly she raised a bunch of great kids, enjoying all their sporting, scouting, school, band, college, and family lives. She and Myles were lifelong members of St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo and regularly participated in the Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'hanis. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Herman and Elsie (Lutz) Poerner, her husband of 51 years, Myles Weynand, and a son, Donald Weynand. She is survived by her loving and devoted sister, Jeanice Zinsmeyer of D'Hanis. She also leaves behind the following children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Mike Weynand (b 8/20/50) married to Valerie Schott from Devine and their children - Beth, Erin, and Myles. Mitch Weynand (b 5/29/52) and his 3 children - Nicholas, Eric, and Jenna. Sherri Weynand (b 10/6/53) married to Michael Colca of Houston/Wimberley and their son - Bryan Camelo. Ken Weynand (b 12/16/54) married to Robin Saathoff of Hondo and their 2 children - Jill and Kyle. Don Weynand (5/9/56) was married Sandy Hunsucker from San Antonio and their daughter - Shana; Don passed away in 1998. Jim Weynand (b 3/2/60) married to Terri Foster from Hondo and their 2 daughters Brittany and Jordan. David Weynand (b 11/5/61) married to Rhonda Kern from Victoria and their 4 children - Jessica, Jennifer, Trey, and Kelsey. Craig Weynand (b 10/6/68) married to Molly Aldrich of Sugarland and their 3 children - Colleen, Emma, and Adam. Danny Weynand (b 11/29/69) married to Shauna Riddell of Hondo and their 3 children - Cade, Morgan, and Reagan. This totals 9 children 22 grandchildren and as of this writing there are 11 great-grandchildren. Myles and Nellie enjoyed a full and happy life. They turned Nellie's land inherited from her parents into the Circle Bar Ranch - a cattle and grain farming operation and showplace that taught all their children the value of hard work. Vacations were the weeks between oats/wheat and milo harvesting - tubing, card playing, barbequing, and camping on the Frio River above Concan. Nellie was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing, handcrafts, and making sure her children were clean, well dressed, well mannered, and most importantly humble and polite. Education was also very important as they stressed the importance of higher education and made numerous sacrifices to insure their children had the opportunity to go to college. All 9 went on to college or trade school, 5 went to Texas A&M and 2 went to Texas so Thanksgivings were always exciting times. Later in life Myles and Nellie enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and visits to their children and grandchildren in Austin, Buda, Wimberley, Dallas, Boerne, Brenham, and Tahoe. Nellie lived with her daughter Sherri in Driftwood, Texas for the last 10 years of her life as her memory and health declined. We are all deeply indebted to Sherri, Michael and Camelo Colca and caregivers Allison and Mary for the attentive, loving care for our mother. The family is also grateful for the excellent attention and services from her nurses and CNAs associated with Gentiva Hospice from San Marcos in the last 3 years. Nellie (Gran) touched the lives of all she met during those Wimberley/Driftwood years with her sweet smile that never failed to carry up to her beautiful blue eyes. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo and there will be a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 14, at 2:00 p.m. in D'Hanis at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo.
