Ismael "Sam" Ortiz, age 78, of D'Hanis passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014. Born Oct. 6, 1935, in D'Hanis, he was the son of Amadeo and Feliciana (Rodriguez) Ortiz. He had worked at D'Hanis Brick & Tile. Ismael is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carolina O. Garcia, Oralia Dominguez and Balbina Orosco; brothers, Amadeo "Shorty" Ortiz Jr., Gilbert Ortiz, Alejandro Ortiz and Leandro Ortiz. He is survived by brothers, Ramiro Ortiz and Basilio Ortiz, both of D'Hanis, Nemesio Ortiz of California; sister, Dominga Hernandez of Austin; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosary at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, was followed by Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment was at San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis. Pallbearers were Alexandro Ortiz Jr., Roland DeLeon, Raymond Ortiz, Randy A. Ortiz, Victor Paul Garcia and Victor Garcia.
