On September 7, 1931, JD Sorrell was born in Quihi, TX, to the late Shedrick and Nathalie (Elam) Sorrell. He attended Marian Anderson School in Hondo, TX. He honorably served four years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an Ambulance Driver with the 582nd Medical Ambulance Company. He was employed by Bexar County where he dutifully worked for over twenty years before retiring in 1989. On August 27, 1971, he united in marriage with Addie Bell Yates, in Hondo, Texas. He enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing and word puzzles. On May 7, 2013, at approximately 6:00 A.M., he answered the Masters call. He was preceded in death by: (Brother) Travis Sorrell, (Daughter) Gloria Bell Evans, (Two Sons) Dewitt Sr. and Elton Evans and (Grandchild) Stephen Evans, all preceding him in death. He leaves to celebrate his legacy: A loving wife of forty-one years, Addie Bell Sorrell, three daughters Michelle Sorrell, Marietta Jones, Marnita (Malcolm) Hill, (of Jackson, MS) three sons Vernon W. Evans (San Antonio, TX), Michael (Nanette) Sorrell (Jackson, MS), Mirrian Dell (Victoria) Greenwood (Las Vegas, NV), two brothers Lloyd Sorrell (Corpus Christi, TX), Shedrick Sorrell Jr. (San Antonio, TX), three sisters Mary Ella House (Memphis, TN), Muriel Lee Blocker (St. Louis, MO), and Gussie Mae Tucker (Houston, TX), 17 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Joshua's House of Worship, 4748 West Martin, San Antonio TX 78237. Interment will be 12:30 p.m. at Cottonwood Cemetery, Hondo.
