Obituary

Jack Richard Garrison, age 96, entered into rest on December 19, 2008 at his home in San Antonio, Texas after a brief illness. He was born on February 5, 1912 in Corpus Christi, Texas to James H. and Elizabeth Garrison. Jack grew up in Galveston, Texas with his older sister Alice where he graduated from Ball High School. After his father's retirement, he and his parents moved to Hondo, Texas where he met and married his first wife, Jonell Rothe Garrison. Their union was blessed with a son, James Louis. As a young man, Jack worked for the Guadalupe Valley Creamery, driving from Hondo to Seguin to Del Rio and back to Hondo six days a week. Jack was a member of the Hondo City Masonic Lodge #756 where he was twice the Worshipful Master. In the 1960s he served for two years as the Hondo City Secretary starting him on a career in municipal administration. He moved to Navasota where he served as the City Secretary and City Manager, then to Angleton where he also served as City Manager. He finished his career in municipal government as the City Manager of Kerrville, Texas. After his retirement from the City of Kerrville, Jack worked in the real estate appraisal office of the Kerrville Independent School District for a number of years until he and Jonell moved back to Hondo. After the death of his dear wife of 55 years, he moved to San Antonio, Texas to be closer to his son and daughter-in-law. In 1999 he married Billie Mahaffey Garrison. They enjoyed nine wonderful years together. Billie lovingly kept watch over Jack during his illness. Jack will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and generous man who was devoted to caring for his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Garrison Stewart and his first wife, Jonell Garrison. He is survived by his wife, Billie, his son, James L. Garrison, and his daughter-in-law, Karen S. Balcom. A memorial service celebrating Jack's life will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6800 Wurzbach Rd (Wurzbach Rd and Newcome Dr), with the Rev.
