Obituary

Jack Pershing Heath passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 in Castroville, Texas. He was 100 years old. Jack, son of Frank and Myrtle Heath was born on December 1, 1918 in Medina County.

In 1935, Jack joined the Civilian Conservation corps and worked on various projects at Garner State Park and Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico. In 1942 Jack joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Naval Net Depot at Indian Island, WA until he was sent to Fleet Anchorage at Ulithi in the Western Caroline Islands. He achieved the rank of Chief Carpenter Mate and was discharged in 1946. He was an active member of the American Legion since that time.

In 1947 he was united in marriage to Elsie Scharfenberg at Port Alberni, B.C. Canada. They then moved back to Texas where they would remain for the next 72 years.

Through the years Jack was very active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America serving as Scout Master of Troop 219 where the scouts participated in summer camps, County Fairs and many weekend campouts. He taught at the Local 14 Union Carpenter's Apprentice School for nine years and then moved to Hondo ISD to teach Building and Construction Trades Classes. He retired from Hondo ISD in 1986.

Jack was a devoted father to his three sons and cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Jack is survived by his three sons, Raymond Mark (Cheryl), Craig (Judy), and Owen (Janine). Two grandsons, David (Bridgette) and Sam (Amelia), five great grandchildren, Wesley, Hayley, Raymond, Joshua, and Clara. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Elsie; father, Frank; mother, Myrtle; brother, Joe and sisters Billie, Gladys, and Nell.
