Obituary

Jack William Poe, 92, died peacefully on October 13, 2009 at Elgin Nursing Home. Jack was born in Biry, Medina County, Texas on September 13, 1917 to Robert George and Irene M. (Bilhartz) Poe. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was married to Elna Tonn Poe for sixty eight years. Jack worked in the oil industry with United Geophysical for a number of years and retired from Mandrel Industries in Houston where he worked as an electrical technician. His work gave him many opportunities to live and travel in the United States and abroad including Spain, Ethiopia, Brazil, France, England, and Italy. He enjoyed fishing and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to fish and will be remembered for telling stories of his travels and adventures. Jack was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elgin, TX. Jack leaves his wife, Elna of Elgin, Texas; his son, Robert and wife Lorraine of Asheville, NC; his grandson, Robby and wife Vanessa of League City, TX; his granddaughter, Candie Poe of Lake Jackson, TX. He had four great grandchildren, Chris Poe of Asheville, NC, Darian Poe, Dorie Poe, and Dakota Poe of League City, TX. The family had visitation at the Elgin Funeral Home Friday October 16, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Holy Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass was Saturday morning October 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father George officiating. Interment will be December 21, 2009 in St. John's Section of the Hondo Cemetery with Fr. Ken Dakin officiating. The family suggests donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 302 W. 11th Street, Elgin, TX 78621 or any charity of your choosing, Arrangements and care were entrusted to the staff of Elgin Funeral Home
