Obituary

Jack Duane White passed away peacefully at his home in Hondo, surrounded by love and his family on Aug. 3, 2009. He was 85 years old. Jack was born in Surprise, Nebraska, and graduated from Kearny High School. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army in 1943 where he became a B-26 medium bomber pilot. He flew 65 combat missions in Europe and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. In 1947 he married Harriet Williams of Kearney, NE. He attended the University of Nebraska, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1949 and went on to receive his Master's Degree in 1951. Jack had a very successful career as an engineer and senior executive in the electronics field. He was a vice president for Sprague Electric Company from 1968 to 1986 in North Adams, MA. Jack and Harriet moved to Clinton, TN, in 1977 and retired. They were active members in the Norris Religious Fellowship. They moved to Hondo in 2007 to live with their son Brett and his wife Debbie on their ranch in Hondo. He had a passion for Nebraska football, airplanes, and building and fixing anything. His wife of 62 years, his three sons, their wives, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren survive him. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, VA. The family suggests memorial donations be made to either: Norris Religious Fellowship, 23 Dogwood Road, P.O. Box 267, Norris, TN 37828, or Health Care Odyssey (Hospice), 4440 S. Piedras, Suite 125, San Antonio, TX 78228.
