James Thomas Arp, age 71, of Uvalde passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014. Born in Truscott, Texas, on April 28, 1943, he was the son of Oscar Arp and Gracie Lou (Trumble) Arp Henderson. As a police officer, he was one of the first motorcycle officers in El Paso. Throughout his life, he also did oilfield work in Tehran, Scotland, Australia and South Africa. He retired from Schlumberger. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Mary (Parker) Arp; and four brothers, Forrest Lee, Donald Keith, Michael Frank and Gary Arp. James is survived by his four children, Cindi Crawford and husband George, James Thomas Arp Jr., Angela Arp Willis and Jeffrey Scott Arp and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Jamie Chavez, Jessi Posey, Ryan Chavez, Amanda Arp, Haley Woodcock, Jace Willis, Shelton Willis, Shane Willis, Garret Arp, Britany Arp, Aaron Brown, Sydney Sneed, and Brittany Lein Brown; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Ayden, Mia, Ada and Jossalyn, and Charlie Woodcock. Memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Uvalde. The family suggests memorials may be made to Uvalde Hospice, 124 Royal Lane, Uvalde TX 78801.
