Obituary

James Charles DCamp of Dayton, formerly of Hondo and Uvalde, age 64, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Born July 7, 1954, at Great Lakes Naval Base, Great Lakes IL, he was the son of Charles B. DCamp and Ruth Joyce MacDonald DCamp. Jim was a man strongly devoted to his family and his faith. He served in the Army, earned a Master's Degree from Sam Houston State University, and taught in Texas and Iowa for over 25 years. His primary passion was music. He played the trombone throughout most of his life and loved performing and listening to music (especially jazz). He taught the subject to thousands of school children, and collected vinyl records as a hobby. Other interests included baseball, basketball, genealogy, and taking family vacations. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in many callings during his lifetime. Jim was a friendly man who loved having conversations with others. He loved his family, his country, and God, and he had a positive effect on the world and those around him. He is preceded in death by his mother; his brother, Douglas; and his wife, Karen Jean Wernette DCamp. He is survived by his father; his sons, Byron (Laura) DCamp of Dayton and Nathan Thomas (Gina) DCamp of San Antonio; daughter, Jocelyn Kay DCamp of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; brothers, David (Sheila) DCamp of Cary IL, Richard (Michelle) DCamp of Oshkosh WI, Paul (Deborah) DCamp of Riverdale IA, and Jon (Kristine) DCamp of Savage MN; sister-in-law, Ronda DCamp of Moorehead MN; and parents-in-law, Leonard G. and Marian Wernette of Hondo. Visitation will be Monday, July 30, from 10 to 11:15 a.m,. followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hondo. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
