Obituary

James Andrew "Jim" Gabehart of Hondo, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 27, 2006, at the age of 92. He was born in Chickasaw, OK, March 2, 1914, the son of Joseph Andrew & Jessie Mae (Thomas) Gabehart. Due to his mother's health, the family moved to Texas in 1926. Jim was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi. He received a 50-year pin from the Hondo Masonic Lodge. Jim was also a member of the Hermann Sons Lodge, which he attended for a number of years, and the United Fiddlers Association, and AARP. Jim was fond of the outdoors, fishing and hunting. During the Korean War, he worked in the shipyards in Houston. Later, he worked in the oil fields. He retired as a equipment operator with Medina County. He was married to Elizabeth Meyer on August 8, 1995. Jim & Elizabeth led a busy and enjoyable life for almost 12 years. He loved going to church and attended regularly as long as he was able. He loved music. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Flora (Parker) Gabehart; son, Bobby Ray Gabehart; brothers, Ira Gabehart, Wesley Gabehart; and sisters, Susie Stocks, Erthel Franklin, Dolly Pence. Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Sue (Doersam) Meyer Gabehart; sons, Charles Eugene Gabehart and wife Minta Sue of Huntington, George Andrew Gabehart and wife Mary Jane of Livingston; daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Gabehart of Houston; stepsons, Jerry Meyer and wife Katherine of Hondo, Stanley Meyer and wife Dolly of Hondo; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great nephews and nieces; brother, Joe Gabehart of San Antonio; and sister, Nedra Short of Victoria. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 30, 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi. The casketcarriers were Wayne Gabehart, Dan Gabehart, John Gabehart, Joey Gabehart, Loretta Hastings, Margaret Smith, Richard Saathoff, Melvin Dittmar. The honorary casketcarriers were Dr. Robert Reed, Morris Baxter, Franklin Muennink, Olen Wiemers, Harold Krahn. Burial will at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, with service led by Hondo Masons.
