Obituary

James Elmore (Jim) Hayes of DHanis, 80, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018. Born Dec. 13, 1937, near Bishop, Texas, he was the son of Luther Woodrow Hayes and Nadine Viola Gutherie Hayes. Jim grew up in Kingsville, graduated from Kingsville High School, and earned a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture from Texas A&I. Jim was an accomplished welder for over 50 years and had been a public school teacher, as well as a probation officer. He also served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather (Pa), uncle and a friend to all. An avid hunter, fisherman and BBQer, he would share his stories and food with all comers; and if you were lucky enough, he would break out his guitar for a sing-along. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jackie Hayes. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Brice Hayes; sons, Chad (Kristi) Hayes of La Vernia and Justin (Vanice) Hayes of Hutto; grandchildren, Sydney, McKenna, Stratton, Analyse, Cordell and Keagan Hayes; stepchildren, Kimberly Callison of Lubbock and David (Amanda) Johnson of Plano; stepgrandchildren, Lily and Sadie Callison and Emily and Madelyn Johnson; sisters, Joy Beth (Wayne) Whittington of Kingsville and Jana Hayes of California; sister-in-law, Peggy Hayes of Kingsville; the mother of his children, Linda Hayes of Hondo; and numerous nieces and nephews. According to his wishes, a public service will not be held at this time. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
