James Clifford Lackey, a man who loved the Lord, his wife and family dearly, age 79, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, in San Antonio after a long battle with cancer. He resided in Yancey with his family. Born and raised in Port Arthur, he was the son of Tom and Flora Lackey and had five brothers and three sisters. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps for seven years and was retired from USAA. His parents and wife, Delores Jean, to whom he was happily married for 53 years, preceded him in death, as did his brother, Allen Thomas Lackey, and sister, Dana Lorene Berwick. He is survived by his son, Jeff Lackey and wife Laura of Georgia; daughter, Jennifer Prince and husband Richard of Yancey; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Quincy Coy Lackey and wife Marie of Groves, Connie Gene Lackey and wife Peggy of Port Neches, Harold Don Lackey and wife Patty of Nacogdoches, Raymond Douglas Lackey and wife Ellen of Mauriceville; and sisters, Nina Ruth Stark of Nederland and Betty Jane Lackey of Port Arthur. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at Yancey Cemetery.
