Obituary

James William McAnelly, known to many as "Dick" or "Mac", born February 11, 1924 to Gladden Clyde and Hallie L. (Nixon) McAnelly in Yancey, Texas He went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the age of 88. After graduating from Yancey High School in 1942 he helped construct the Hondo Army Air Base. He enlisted in the US Army during WWII and served in Japan. Upon his discharge, Dick began a career in public service. He worked for Medina Electric Cooperative, as Utilities Manger for the City of Castroville for 24 years, and Public Works director for the City of Shavano Park for 9 years. He was very active in the community and gave freely of his time and talents to the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Medina Valley Moose Lodge, and AARP. His community service ventures included helping build the girls' softball field at the Castroville Airport, helping found the Castroville Volunteer Emergency Medical Service in 1972, coordinating Market Trail Days, and participating in various church and community events. He took great pride in being a 32nd degree Mason and receiving his 50 year pin from the Hondo Masonic Lodge. He was especially proud of receiving the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in the Loyal Order of Moose. One of his greatest joys in life was singing, especially at his church home at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. On July 4, 1959 he married Sue Taylor in Hondo, Texas. She preceded him in death in 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents; children, Viki and Al McAnelly; siblings, Dora Mae Faseler, John McAnelly, Charles McAnelly, and Lorine McAnelly. Survivors include his siblings Anna Lee Strait and husband John, and Rusty McAnelly all of Pearsall; children, Beth Hannemann and husband Steve of Quihi, Dee Chester and her fiancé Scott Fuller of Castroville, and James W. McAnelly, Jr. and wife Shelia of Austin; grandchildren, Nicole and Hallie Hannemann, Tara, Bryce and Taylor Chester, Chelsea Chester and her companion Justin Hurtado, Sheri and Kevin Pederzani, Elaine and Ralph Jaramillo, James W. McAnelly, III and his companion Kristi Westermann, Brett McAnelly-Ellis; great grandchildren, Mason James Hurtado, Vance and Sarah Pederzani, Anthony Arispe, Desarae and J.C. Osborn, Arellana and Lance Jaramillo, Sabrina Ellis and numerous nieces , nephews and other loved ones. He also leaves behind his companion of the last few years, Patricia Burrows of Castroville; her children Jeanine, Michele, Grant and their families; as well as Karen and Daryl Massar and their children. Visitation will be Monday, May 28, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville, TX. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi. Interment will follow in the Yancey Cemetery in Yancey.
