James L. "Sandy" McDonald, age 72, of Hondo went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013. Born Aug. 25, 1941, in Poteet, he was the son of Van E. and Orilla E. (Gray) McDonald, who preceded him in death, as did his son, James Harlan. Sandy was a home construction contractor. He was a quiet man who enjoyed hunting and fishing and visiting at the "College of Knowledge". He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donnie D. (Littleton) McDonald; daughter, Reneé Dougherty and husband David of Devine; daughter, Kim Reed and husband Cliff of Hondo; son, Hal H. "Holly" Petty and wife Debbie of Devine; grandchildren, Nikki and Heather Petty of Devine, Cameron, Blake and Emily Reed of Hondo, Dakota, Ashtyn and Trace Dougherty of Devine, and Harlee, Cash, Outlaw and Chloe of Devine; brother, Robert T. McDonald and wife Pat of San Antonio; brother-in-law, Mark Littleton and wife Pam of Stephenville; sisters-in-law, Susie Trollinger of Devine, Beth Barrow of Somerset, Sharon Simpson and husband Mike of Lytle and Betty Calk and husband Roger of Lytle; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside service will be at 10:45a Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Hondo or the charity of one's choice.
