James Jay Nichols was born April 30, 1918, in Shamrock, OK, the son of Jacob McCabe & Nancy (Eaten) Nichols. Jay of D'Hanis, Texas, passed away September 5, 2003, at the age of 85 years, four months, six days in Hondo, Texas. Jay had recently moved from Casper, WY to D'Hanis. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the 8th AirForce. During the war he was stationed in Nuthampsted, England. Jay was a member of Masonic Lodge #15. He had worked in the oilfields of TX & WY He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Dave Nichols and Dan Nichols; sisters: Bessie Cowan, Maude Cowan, Ann Walker, Irene Hazelwood, Betty Thomason. He is survived by his wife: Sybil (Gilliam) Nichols, daughter: Glenda Stark and husband Ron of D'Hanis; grand daughter Kim Stark Hiemke and husband Scott and great grandson: Sloan Hiemke. The Memorial Service will be Thursday, September 11, at 1:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Sabinal, Texas. The family suggests that memorials be given to the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital. Arrangements were by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Hondo.
