James Robert Rainey of Hondo passed away at his home Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at the age of 76. He was born May 15, 1932, to Ernest and Corrine Rainey of Utopia. Robert, better known as "Shortstroke," as "Shortstroke," drove a truck for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Quihi Gun Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Otis Lynn Rainey; and son-in-law, Bob Bostic. Known to his family as Papaw, he is survived by his wife, Eva; daughter, Becky Bostic; sons, Glynn Rainey and wife Sandy and Richard Rainey and wife Kathy; grandchildren, Logan and Laci Bostic, Codie Rainey and wife Leslie, Nikki Rainey and Cody Henry, Brandy Rainey and husand Steve, Clint Rainey and wife Julie; two brothers, Paul Rainey and David Rainey; two nephews and two nieces. Graveside funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
