James "Jimmy" Edward Rogers was born to Oma and Bailey Rogers on January 2, 1927 on a family farm south of Hondo. He attended schools in Hondo and played football and baseball for the Hondo Owls. He graduated 1944 and attended Texas A & M where he was a student for only one semester before being drafted into the US Army where he served in the Occupational Forces in Italy. After he was discharged he returned to Hondo met up with his school buddies that had also retuned. He found a job with Alamo Pottery in San Antonio which was later then moved to Hondo and became Universal Rundle Corp. After he moved home he met and then married the woman who was the love of his life, Ms. Inell Braden, on January 17, 1950. He and Inell had many things in common, one of which playing Hi-Way 90 baseball for several years. They continued to play baseball until their children were born. They were blessed with three beautiful children. First born was Susan Elaine, then there was Sandra Lee, last Joan Marie. All the girls were the pride of his life. His probable biggest next joy was his grandchildren. He loved them all and was so very proud of their accomplishments. Another of his great joys was his many good time fishing with all his buddies around South Texas and swapping "tall" tales. He probably told more tails than anyone else. After his approximate 42 years with Universal Rundle he retired and ventured into the cattle business with his son-in-law Royce Hartmann. This new "hobby" of cattle became an important part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Inell Braden Rogers, daughter Susan Elaine Hartmann, daughters and son-in-laws Sandra Lee Ross and husband Robert, and Joan Marie Medina and husband Johnny. Grandchildren Melissa Hartmann Lutz, Todd Hartmann, Bailey Ross, Justin Ross, Colby Medina and Chloe Medina. Great-grandchildren Megan Hartmann and Royce Lutz. He is preceded in death by his parents Oma and Bailey Rogers and son-in-law Royce Hartmann. Visitation was held at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 2:15 p.m. until 3:00 pm on October 3, 2012. The Funeral Mass followed at 3:00 p.m. Burial was at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section with the local VFW & American Legion Posts providing Honors.
