Obituary

Jim always said he was "born at the head of Montell Creek" on the family ranch in Uvalde County, Texas. He passed away at his home in Northcliffe, Guadalupe County, Texas, on July 8, 2007. His parents were James H. Wells, Sr. and Eve Scrogum Wells. James to his family and classmates at Uvalde High School, he was known as Jim when he came to San Antonio where he settled, met his wife, raised a family and established a business. He achieved success first in the truck stop business, operating and then building truck stops branded "Fuel Stop" in Bexar County. In recent years he hit his stride developing commercial properties with partner, David Moody. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Samuel Lewis Wells and Charles Neiman Wells and sister Geneva Owens Pendley. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Gallaway Wells, and children James Henry Wells III and former wife, Lorri; John Andrew Wells and wife, Kim; Jennifer Wells Hinojosa and husband, Carlos; grandchildren, to whom he was "Paw Paw," are Duane Lee Sherman, James Henry Wells IV, John Louis Wells, Joshua Daniel Wells, William "Willie" Carlos Hinojosa, Maia Ann Wells, and Sean Andrew Wells. He is survived as well by his sister, Carolyn Costner and husband John; Olive and Allan Gallaway, his mother and father-in-law, whom he regarded dearly as parents and with whom he shared a longstanding tradition of lunch on Fridays at Luby's Cafeteria. His funeral and burial will be in Hondo, Texas beside his mother and brothers. Services will be held on Thursday, July 12th at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 11 a.m., The Reverend Jeffrey Lange will conduct services from the Lutheran Book of Worship at 12 noon. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Hondo, on Quihi Road, follows the services. Following interment, family and friends are invited to a reception at The Alsatian, 1403 Angelo Street, in Castroville. From Hondo, drive 18 miles east on Hwy. 90 to Castroville; turn left on Angelo Street.
