Obituary

Jennifer Katherine Wells Hinojosa of Henderson, Nevada – proud Texan turned Nevada desert rose – formerly of Austin and San Antonio, TX, entered peacefully into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 11, 2025, with her husband and son by her side.

Jennifer was born on July 25, 1962, in San Antonio, TX, to James Henry Wells (now deceased) and Joanne Gallaway Wells, who survives her. The family moved to McAllen, TX when she was a young girl where her mother enrolled her at Melba's School of Dance. This is where Jennifer learned to dance ballet which she developed a passion for. The family then moved back to San Antonio where she continued to dance ballet with several dance companies. She attended East Central High School where she also danced with the Honeybees drill team. She graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in 1980 and later attended Del Mar College. In her early career, she worked in her father's truck stop business before moving to Austin, where she began a long and distinguished career with the State of Texas.

Her first role with the Texas Comptroller's Office was as an entry-level tax collector, and it was an experience that would shape her professional life. It is also where she met her future husband, Carlos Hinojosa. After their marriage and the birth of their son, Jennifer took a four-year break from her career to focus on motherhood. She returned to public service at a different state agency, ultimately retiring after 25 years of service as a Division Director. Her family is deeply proud of the many accomplishments, awards, and accolades she earned during her career.

After retirement, Jennifer embraced a life of travel and relaxation. Whether tubing down the Guadalupe River, drifting peacefully at the family's lake house on Canyon Lake, or soaking in the sun along the shores of the Texas Gulf Coast, Florida's white sands, the Atlantic coastline, or the Bahamas, Jennifer felt most at home near the water. Cruises took her across the Caribbean, where she swam in warm tropical waters and enjoyed birding in the jungles along Mexico's Mayan coast, and most recently ziplining in the Honduran jungle. In her final years, she joyfully found new adventures out West and treasured the serenity of watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Her last tranquil days of floating were spent in the pool of her desert oasis home, which she fully loved decorating to her heart's content.

Jennifer is survived by her beloved husband, Carlos Hinojosa of Henderson, NV; and her sons, K. D. Biesenbach of San Francisco, CA, and William Hinojosa of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by her mother, Joanne Gallaway Wells of Cibolo, TX. She leaves behind two brothers: Jimmy Wells of San Antonio and Andrew Wells of San Antonio. Jimmy's children include James Wells of Philadelphia, PA; John Wells and his wife, Xochitl of Kyle, TX, and their daughter, Victoria; and Joshua Wells of Austin. Andrew and his wife Kim are the parents of twins Maia and Sean, also of San Antonio.

She is also lovingly remembered by her Aunt Carolyn Costner, Aunt Annete Sheppard, Aunt Marilyn Lange, Uncle Bob Galloway; cousins Eva, Sam, David, and Chris and his family, whose lives were touched by her warmth, laughter, and generosity. Several beloved family members preceded her in death, and their memories continued to bring her comfort and strength throughout her life.

Jennifer also leaves behind many cherished friends, including Lorri Wells of San Antonio, TX; Kim Johnson of Austin; Dorothy and Mario Gonzalez of Port Isabel/South Padre Island; the beloved Brunch Bunch; sister-in-law, Belinda Hinojosa Grein of Henderson; Oscar Herrera of Falfurrias; and Marvel and Larry Layman of Henderson, NV, former Texans and dear companions.

The family would like to thank Pastor Derrek Klemm for his counsel and prayers of comfort.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society may be made in Jennifer's name.

A funeral and celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, in Hondo, Texas, where Jennifer will be laid to rest beside her father in the Wells family plot.
