Jerry Dean Harris, age 57, of Yancey died suddenly Friday, Aug. 3, 2012. Born May 24, 1955, in Big Spring, he was the son of Gerald Lee and Juanita (Holt) Harris. Also known as "Owl" or "Alamo", he was jovial man of many talents and was currently doing oilfield work. He was preceded in death by his mother and siblings, Linda Skloss, Donna Murphy and Thomas Earl Jacobs III. Jerry is survived by his daughters, Amber Padgett of Enid OK, Melissa Harris and Jerica Harris, both of Atchison KS; five grandchildren; parents, Gerald and Betty Harris of Yancey; brothers, Larry Harris of Yancey, Richard Harris, Larry Miller of Hondo, and Bobby Harris of Laredo; sisters, Connie Corley of Devine, Lynn Carter of Yancey, Chrissy Green of Pearsall and Sandy Murphy of Yancey. A memorial service was held Friday August 11, at the Yancey United Methodist Church.
