Obituary

Jerry Ray Ooley passed away January 11, 2009 at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife, Donna Ooley; his two children, April Overton, and Wendy Ooley; his brother Ira Ooley; his sisters, Phyllis Mullis and Deloris Ellis. He grew up in Bloomington, Indiana living a full life starting early in life in the Boy Scouts in which he worked hard and became an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He went on to serve in the Army and then transferred to the Air Force. He served in several overseas locations, including serving in the Vietnam War. He retired in Cabot, Arkansas after 20 years of service in the Air Force. He went on to work for the City of Little Rock from which he retired after 24 years. After this retirement he moved with his wife of 38 years to Mico, Texas outside of San Antonio. Jerry enjoyed working with youths and other community Service organizations. For several years he was a Scout Master and/or Assistant Scout Master with troops in Korea; Fort Richardson, AK; Rapid City, SD; Blytheville, AR, and San Vito, Italy. He also was a Senior Member with Civil Air Patrol, working with cadets and working search and rescue missions for downed aircraft. He was also fundamental in the establishment of the Mountain Springs Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Chief for several years. He was a Mason and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was Worshipful Master for the Hondo Lodge # 752 AF. AM. in Hondo, Texas and past Worshipful Master for the Ward Lodge in Ward, Arkansas. He was the Past Worthy Patron for both the Hondo Chapter #404 and the Ward chapter. Jerry was a member of both the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star in Jacksonville, Ar. He was a member of the New Fountain United Methodist Church in Hondo. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 14, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at New Fountain United Methodist Church. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock, AR.
