Jesse S. Arcos, Sr., the Smiling Deputy, of Hondo, Texas, passed away June 29, 2004, at the age of 77 years, 1 month, 17 days. Jesse was born on May 12, 1927, to Vicente & Antonia (Soliz) Arcos in Hondo, Texas. He was preceded by his parents; wife: Frances (Vela) Arcos, brothers: Luz, Joe, Cresencio, and George Arcos; sisters: Mary Diaz, Irene Rublin, Ursula Bernal, Guadalupe Hinojosa. Jesse is survived by his son: Jesse Arcos, Jr. and wife Benedita of Castroville; daughters: Santa Gutierrez and husband Pedro, Jr., Elmira Cantu and husband Abdon of San Antonio; sons: Teodore Arcos and wife Mary Jane of San Antonio, Vicente Arcos and wife Azalea of Hondo, Larry Arcos and wife Norma of Hondo, Jay James Arcos of Hondo; 23 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; brothers: Manuel Arcos and wife Quta of San Antonio, Simon Arcos and wife Eva of Hondo; sisters: Apolonia Martinez of San Antonio, Alicia Pedroza Gregorio of Hondo. The Rosary will be at 7:00 pm Friday, July 2, at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am Saturday, July 3, at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The pallbearers were: Jason Arcos, Kristian Arcos, Karly Arcos, Btandon L. Arcos, Pete Gutierrez, III, Pilar Cantu, IV. Interment will follow in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
